Former Dowagiac resident Marion Burnette Mack, 95, of Niles, passed away Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010, at West Woods of Niles Nursing Home.

She was born on Jan. 9, 1915 in Chattanooga, Tenn., to William A. and Nancy (Kennedy) Burnette.

Marion and her late husband, Ralph G. Mack, lived at 108 Green St. before retiring to Sun City, Ariz., in 1981.

Marion graduated from Northwestern University in 1936 with an English literature degree.

She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

While living in Dowagiac, she was active in Junior Arts, bridge club and women’s golf.
She participated in many activities after moving to Arizona, including sorority alumni group Delta Delta Delta, golf league, bridge club, poetry group and was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Sun City, Ariz.

She was proud of earning her real estate license in her late 60s and sold real estate for several years.

She was preceded in death by parents, William and Nancy Burnette; her husband of 62 years, Ralph Mack; two sisters, Jean Burnette Carlson and Virginia Burnette Malling; and an infant son, Bruce W. Mack.

Marion is survived by her five children: Jeffrey (Pat) Mack of Hartford; Lorna Mack of Belleville; Martha Hartman of Annapolis, Md.; Julie (Craig) Cline of Dowagiac; and Philip Mack of Chattanooga, Tenn.; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

A service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, at Redmond Funeral Home, 4100 S. Westnedge Ave. Kalamazoo, MI 49008; (269) 343-6156.

Interment of cremains will take place at a later date.
