Wonderland bringing film festival

Cinema aficionados who would like to view independent releases from Germany, Sweden and Switzerland need not travel to South Carolina because Wonderland is bringing the Myrtle Beach International Film Festival to Niles next month.

Charles Nelson of Moore Theatres, which owns Wonderland Cinema, 402 N. Front St., said it will be showing more than 35 titles from the seventh annual festival April 20-28 on Nov. 1-4, with a Thursday gala leading off the weekend event.

Nelson said films will be divided into 10 blocks over the four days.

Each two-hour block is an assortment, from four-minute shorts to full-length features.

The festival accepts entries in such categories as shorts, animation, documentaries, music videos, feature projects and “anything goes.”

Patrons can buy individual tickets or access them all for $50.

“Hopefully, we do it again,” Nelson said.

Perhaps what is being called “MBIFF in Niles” will lead to a discussion afterward about exploring a local independent festival.

The theater is offering several levels of sponsorship, with Pizza Transit signing on to cater and Tippy Toes Natural Nails Salon and Spa providing massage, Nelson said.
