One of the favorites to win the Wolverine Conference West Division proved to host Dowagiac why they have earned that status Friday afternoon.

The Edwardsburg Eddies dominated the Chieftain tennis team 7-1 at the Dowagiac Middle School courts.

The Eddies swept the singles flights, dropping just one game in the first two flights won by Alex Watts and Hayley Jones.

Dowagiac put up a better fight in the third and fourth flights, but still lost to Connie Kutschbach and Andrea Wagner in straight sets.

The lone bright spot for the Chieftains came at No. 1 doubles where Madison Proshwitz and Nicole Irwin defeated Madison Hatkevich and Kinzie Hahn 6-3 and 6-3.

“Our No. 1 doubles have been playing well and they are on a winning streak,” Dowagiac coach Sonny Swartz said. “Now if we could get the other girls to step up their play, we would be playing some good tennis, but we will keep working.”
