Vickie Sykes, 55, Vandalia

Vickie Sykes, 55, of Vandalia, died peacefully Sunday, Aug. 4, 2013 in Kairos House, Kalamazoo, after a short battle with cancer.

Vickie was born May 29, 1958 in Chicago to Eddie Jr., and Georgia (McIntosh) Sykes.  Her parents survive. She was preceded in death by one brother, Derek K. Sykes.

Vickie attended First Church of God, Vandalia. Vickie will be greatly missed by family and friends. She is survived by her mother and step father, Georgia and Leon Yarbrough of Vandalia; her father and step mother, Eddie and Julie Sykes Jr. of Chicago; her sister, Donnette Sykes of Chicago; her step sister, Deidra Yarbrough of Chicago; her aunts Stella McIntosh of Vandalia, Gladys Jones of Chicago; many cousins, including Daisy Hervey of Vandalia; and a special friend, Dale Irving of Cassopolis and his family.

Family and friends will gather Friday for a wake from 10 a.m. until time of her Homegoing Celebration at 11 a.m. in Connelly Chapel Wagner Family Funerals, 202 N. Broadway St., Cassopolis, with Pastor Rayvon Bufkin officiating.

Ms. Sykes will be laid to rest in Bogue Street Memorial Garden in Vandalia.
