Verla Mae McKee, 81

Verla Mae McKee, 81, of Cassopolis, died peacefully Friday, May 17, 2013, in Cass County Medical Care Facility, Cassopolis.

Verla Mae was born July 2, 1931 in Jefferson Township, to Melvin and Emma (Vickers) Whitmyer, one of 15 children. She married William Allen McKee in Goshen, Ind. He preceded her in death in Oct., 2003. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one grandson, Daniel Young; six sisters, Bertha Anglemyer, Francis Dorn, Millie Hunsberger, Helen Hughes, Rose Townsend, Evelyn White; and three brothers, Walt Whitmyer, Jim Whitmyer, and Paul Whitmyer.

Verla Mae was a homemaker who was always there for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She led a very comfortable life.

Verla Mae will be greatly missed by family and friends. She is survived by one daughter, Kathleen (Barry) Wishart of Cassopolis; one son, Stephen (Diana) McKee of Cassopolis, one granddaughter, Angela (Monty) Michals of Wonder Lake, Ill.; two grandsons, Chad (Miriam) McKee of Chandler, Ariz. and Christopher (April) McKee of Cassopolis; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Emma Underwood, Dorothy McClain; and three brothers, John Whitmyer, Willis Whitmyer and Bo Whitmyer.

Family and friends gathered on May 19 in Connelly Chapel Wagner Family Funerals, 202 N. Broadway St., Cassopolis. Mrs. McKee was laid to rest in Reames and Norton Cemetery, Cassopolis.

The family prefers that those wishing to honor Verla Mae will plant some Morning Glorys in her memory.
