JD’s Truck Stop receives $1,000 gift, free training

JD’s Truck Stop in Niles is one of two small businesses in the state and 102 small businesses nationwide to receive a $1,000 Sam’s Club gift card and paid access to a SCORE training seminar in Dallas, Texas.

Gina Masten, owner of JD’s Truck Stop, said she plans to use the money to spruce up the truck stop’s lounge area.

“It is very sparse right now,” she said. “I am hoping to find stuff to fill the space that will make it more comfortable and more homey for people that need a break from the road.”

Masten said she is looking forward to meeting the other 101 winners during the SCORE seminar Jan. 23-24 in Dallas.

“I think it will be interesting to see other types of business and learn about the challenges they are facing,” Masten said. “With all of us there, maybe we can come up with ways to improve all our businesses.”

Masten has been working for the past year with SCORE, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping small businesses grow and achieve their goals through education and mentorship.

Masten’s mentor, Bob Soanes, nominated JD’s Truck Stop. Businesses were chosen based on need and commitment to ongoing learning and growth.

More than $500,000 in supplies and training were awarded will be awarded through the program, sponsored by Sam’s Club and SCORE.
