Niles edges St. Joseph in overtime

ST. JOSEPH — Visiting Niles extended the losing streak of the St. Joseph Bears in SMAC soccer Thursday.

The Vikings (6-5-2) forced overtime and went on to defeat the Bears (5-7-1) 2-1.

Caden Hullinger tied up the match with 8:47 remaining in regulation and Jose Magana scored the winning goal in overtime with an assist from Ben Florkowski.

St. Joseph took the 1-0 lead in the 47th minute on a goal by Braeden Lear.

St. Joseph held a 5-4 advantage in shots on goal.

Trey Scott and Marcus Hurt each had two saves for the Vikings.

Anthony Tedesco and John Ackerman split time between the posts for the Bears with Ackerman being credited with three saves.
