CASSOPOLIS — Join Cass County Family Treatment Court as it participates in the Michigan Association of Drug Court Professionals (MADCP) Relay for Recovery at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Law and Courts Building, 60296 M-62.

Riders from the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department will be presenting the graduating member of the Cass County Family Treatment Court with the flag. Following this symbolic passing of the MADCP flag, a graduation will take place in the Cass County Probate/Family Court.

Motorcycle riders started May 18 on a numerous county and city relay and will end in Cassopolis today by the passing of the MADCP flag.

President of MADCP, Judge Brian MacKenzie, said, “The Michigan Motorcycle Relay for Recovery expresses the idea that the individuals who are ordered into a drug court are not completely lost to society, and they need never be.”

Michigan drug courts are a proven budget solution and an alternative to other types of sanctions. Currently, there are 96 drug courts in Michigan. These courts range in type from adult drug courts, sobriety courts, juvenile drug courts, tribal drug courts, family dependency courts and the newest form of problem-solving courts, veteran treatment courts.

Drugs courts combine rigorous drug treatment and accountability to compel and support drug-using individuals to change their life for their betterment and the betterment of their family.

Drug courts refer more people to treatment than any other system in America, annually leading more than 80,000 individuals to a life of abstinence.
