PFCC Cruisers move ride to May
With so many motorcycle fundraising events, Penn Friends Community Church is going to try a less congested spot on the schedule for the PFCC Cruisers’ second ride benefiting Cass County Cancer Service.
Since the church “in the middle of nowhere” in Penn can be difficult for visitors to find, Debbie Hassinger said participants meet May 19 at the more visible Mahogany Outfitters boat museum on M-60, which will be open if anyone wants to tour after the ride. Registration starts at 10 a.m. “Kick stands up” at 11.
The ride, swapping summer for spring, costs $20 per bike — or car — and they will be selling tickets for $6.50 for the meal at the church afterward for those who prefer to eat.
“Five (cars) followed us last year,” said Hassinger, a cancer survivor who is involved with the Cancer Service. She said the small August ride raised an amount in the hundreds, “but every dollar helps.”
That’s why the invitation was extended to cars and meal-only participants.
They’re trying to line up a couple of hot rods, too.
“We want everyone to feel they can be a part of it if their heart calls them,” said Hassinger, who started a cancer ministry at the church with five other people. “Money’s tight in our area.”
Cass County Cancer Service was established in 1991 by a group of concerned volunteers with a desire to provide help and support to cancer patients.
As cancer patients’ needs changed, so did the Cancer Service.
In addition to loaning from a warehouse of donated medical equipment, it provides financial assistance for needed prescriptions, nutritional supplements, gas cards and other necessities. Wigs are provided through a local beautician.
Cass County Cancer Service is funded by individual donations, memorials, grants and fundraisers such as PFCC Cruisers. It receives no assistance — financial or otherwise — from the American Cancer Society.
Participants are asked to RSVP by April 20.
