4-H Off-Street Trunk or Treat Oct. 27

The Cass County 4-H Youth Development Program is hosting a community-wide activity, “Off the Street Trunk or Treat,” Saturday, Oct. 27, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Cass County fairgrounds and will include educational safety topics for the whole family. Over 800-1,000 youth and 30 community businesses, organizations and groups participated last year and made the 2011 event extremely successful.

Its purpose is to engage the community to participate in an event together, create awareness regarding the opportunity for area youth to participate in 4-H and give children a fun, safe and educational Halloween activity.

The Masonic Lodges of Cass County will once again be providing a free child identification program at the event.  Each child that goes through the process will receive a dental impression kit that can be done at home, as well as a CD containing a photo, video, digital fingerprints and their vital information.

Parents or guardians of children who participate must be present and fill out a permission slip for the child to receive this service.

Children who have already received the service are encouraged to repeat the process every two years to keep the information in the completed packets current.
The Michigan Child Identification Program provides the family with everything needed for the Amber Alert System and since 2005 several thousand Michigan families have received this valuable service.

The program is also considered one of the most comprehensive programs of its kind by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
