Bobcats, Vikings earn titles

CONSTANTINE — A pair of Brandywine thinclads earned Division 3 Regional championships at Constantine High school Friday night.

AJ Srmek captured the 300 meter hurdles, while Evan Hartman won the discus. Both now advanced to the state meet June 2.

Srmek ran a time of 39.7 to win the hurdles, while Hartman recorded a toss of 158-7.

The Bobcats will also send their 1,600-meter relay team to the state meet after finishing second with a time of 3:29.3. The top two teams, plus any additional qualifiers, move on to the state finals.

Brandywine finished third overall with 56 points. Parchment won the meet with 94 points, while Watervliet was second with 83. Cassopolis finished eighth and Buchanan ninth.

Brandywine did not score a point in the girls meet, which was won by Parchment with 102 points. Buchanan was ninth and Cassopolis 10th.

The Bucks’ Brianna Dinneen won both the 100 (12.44) and 200 meters (25.9). She was third in the 400 meters (1:02.2).

Division 2

VICKSBURG — The Niles girls track team finished second at the regional held at Vicksburg High School Friday.

The Vikings had one individual regional champion in Miranda Baker, who won the high jump with a height of 5-3.

Niles’ 1,600-meter relay team also was a regional champion with a time of 4:07.87. That team consisted of Chantel Baker, Chaffin, Taylor Brandstatter and Lashonda Green.

Brandstatter qualified for the state meet for a fourth straight year as she finished second in the 400 meters with a time of 1:01.0. Paige Chaffin also qualified by time (1:01.61) as she was third.

The Niles boys team placed sixth with 51 points. Otsego won the meet with 73 points and Edwardsburg was second with 72.5.

Niles won the 800-meter relay regional title as the team of Quintin Irby, Ronnie Jones, Cicone Palmore and Brandon Partee ran a time of 1:29.96.

Jones, Palmore and Partee also qualified for the state finals as individuals.

Partee was second in the 110 meter high hurdles (15.19), Palmore was sixth in the 100 meters (11.42) and Jones was sixth in the 200 meters (23.08).
