Razzano qualifies for state finals

Edwardsburg’s Dominic Razzano, Niles’ John Schrader and Dowagiac’s Jordan Juday are headed to the MHSAA Boys Golf Finals this weekend.

While the Vikings and the Eddies did not qualify as teams for the state finals, Schrader shot 74 to finish second overall and Razzano 78 to place sixth.

The Division 2 state finals will be held at Ferris State University’s Katke Golf Club.

DeWitt was the Division 2 Regional champion with a score of 312. Haslett was second at 315 and St. Johns third at 323. Edwardsburg missed qualifying as a team by four strokes after shooting 327 to place fourth.

Niles was 10th with a team total of 354.

The Chieftains failed to qualify as a team at The Medalist in Olivet Thursday, but Juday finished fourth overall and was one of three additional qualifiers for the finals, which will be held at Michigan State University’s Forest Akers East.

Juday shot 74 to advance. The top three teams, plus the top three individuals not on a qualifying team, advance to the state finals.

Grand Rapids West Catholic won the regional championship with a score of 313, while Lakewood was second with a 320 and Lansing Catholic Central was third with a 325.

The Chieftains finished sixth after shooting 335.

Dowagiac also got an 83 from Paul Lamphere, an 86 from Andrew Wild, a 92 from Christian Hess and a 93 from Jon Robinson.

Brandywine’s Alec DeJonge and Chance Smith shot 82 and 90 respectively, while Buchanan’s Brent Brown and Josh Whitfield shot 83 and 85.

Cassopolis’ Blaise Suseland did not compete in the regional Thursday.
