CASSOPOLIS — Victoria Toney, 15, of Niles, who showed the grand champion market hog Tuesday at the 159th Cass County Fair, is president of her sophomore class at Niles High School.

The Flaming Youth 4-H member has been showing for four years. She also exhibits dairy feeder steers and sheep, but her passion is clearly reserved for pigs.

Victoria, who plays volleyball and basketball at school as well as serving on student council, started with hogs in the show arena.

Her grand champion market hog, a barrow, is known as Forrest, like Gump, because she had another named Jenny.

The Swartz Traveling Trophy is awarded to the exhibitor of the grand champion market hog.

Victoria finished third in intermediate swine showmanship.

One year she trained her pig to drink water from a bottle.

Pigs are also fond of Oreo cookies.

Money she earns auctioning her pork pays for travel.

“I go open shows all the time,” Victoria said, pointing to the green Michigan State livestock show  T-shirt she’s wearing.
