What has three wheels, goes up to 16 mph and is completely street legal? Quite possibly the weirdest car that you’ve ever seen.

That car is the all-electric 1959 Taylor-Dunn Trident, and it is one of many unique and fascinating cars that are showcased every Monday night at the Maple Cafe in Edwardsburg.

“Anything that’s cool and has a motor, we want to see it,” said Mark Hosaflook, director of the Edwardsburg Cruise-In.

It began June 1 and will continue every Monday throughout the summer. Hosaflook and 80 of his closest friends will bring their boats, motorcycles, cars and more to the Maple Cafe to share them with the Edwardsburg community.

Previously, the Cruise-In has been held at the Mahogany Outfitters and Classic Motor Boats museum, but this year, Hosaflook was looking to change venues.

“We like to move every three years,” he said.

Hosaflook explained that the old-style car lot look of the Maple Café made it a perfect place to relocate.

“I’m doing it for fun—for all the people to have a good time,” said Phil Philippou, owner of Maple Café. “We cook hamburgers and brats outside, we have music and everybody has a really good time.”

The event is free and open to the public. Attendees are not required to bring a vehicle to showcase, but they are required to enjoy some of the amazing cars that are on display — cars as old as a 1920 Ford Model T and as new as a 2016 Jaguar V12.

“Anything we do is for everybody,” Hosaflook said.

The event starts at 5:30 p.m. every Monday, though the lot usually fills up with cars much earlier.

There are 16-20 awards given throughout the evening, including those for winners of the Bingo tournament held at each event.
