BUCHANAN — For the 41st time, the roar of engines will pierce the tranquil surroundings of Buchanan as the Red Bull RedBud National takes place Saturday.

The RedBud National is the sixth round on the Lucas Oil Motocross Championship Series. Saturday’s race, which will be televised on the NBC sports networks, is being presented by Soaring Eagle Casino Resort.

140703RedBudNationallogoThe nationals are really a five-day festival that will draw more than 30,000 spectators to RedBud, one of the nation’s premier motocross tracks.

The highlight of the festival is the pro motocross event on Saturday. The riders will practice at 8:30 a.m. with the final motos set to take place between 1 and 5 p.m.

RedBud opened up Wednesday for camping. Open riding and practice takes place today until 2 to 3 p.m.

Friday’s action includes amateur racing on the pro track beginning with practice at 8 a.m. and again at 7 p.m.

A fireworks display is set for 10:45 p.m. Friday.

Tickets for Saturday are $40 for ages 12 and up or $20 for ages 6 to 11. Children 5 and under are free. Parking is $10 per car.

Saturday’s ticket is also got for the amateur racing and fireworks that evening. Gates open at 6 a.m. Saturday.

Heading into the weekend, Ken Roczen led the 450cc division with 230 points. Ryan Dungey is second with 214 and James Stewart third with 187. Rounding out the top five are Trey Canard (186) and Brett Metcalfe (141).

Jeremy Martin sits atop the 250cc division with 203 points. Cooper Webb is second with 195 and Blake Baggett third with 186. Justin Bogle and Christophe Pourcel are tied for fourth with 166 points.

In 2013, Ryan Villopoto swept both motos to take the 450cc championship while Roczen, from Germany, won the 250cc event with a moto victory and a second place finish. Eli Tomac won the first moto and was the runner-up in the second, but lost to out Roczen by time differential.
