Grand Valley third in Director’s Cup standings

CLEVELAND — Shippensburg (Pa.) leads the first set of all Division II Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup standings with 203 points.

The Raiders captured their first NCAA field hockey title in 2013, while also earning points in both men’s and women’s cross country.

Adams State (Colo.) and Grand Valley State are tied for second with 190 points each. The Grizzlies took home the men’s cross country title and finished second in women’s cross country, while the Lakers took home the women’s cross country hardware and were second on the men’s side.

Western State is in fourth with 165 points, finishing third in women’s cross country and fourth on the men’s side.

Augustana (S.D.) is in fifth with 160 points with third and fifth place finishes in the women’s and men’s cross country championships, respectively.

The RMAC leads all conferences in the top 10 with three institutions — Adams State (second), Western State Colorado (fourth) and Metropolitan State (eighth).

To date, three fall NCAA championships have been completed with the following institutions capturing titles: women’s cross country — Grand Valley State; men’s cross country — Adams State; field hockey — Shippensburg.

The Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today.

Points are awarded based on each institution’s finish in up to 14 sports — seven women’s and seven men’s.
