The Edwardsburg Area Chamber of Commerce celebrated another successful year with its annual dinner at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church Tuesday night.

The chamber continues to grow and one of its newest members, Brent Longbrake of Key Nutrition, was the featured speaker.

Following appetizers and dinner, Longbrake talked about what Key Nutrition has to offer and how the community of Edwardsburg, as well as the entire country, needs to start taking action when it comes to health.

“After a life-changing event, I decided to close the business I was in and follow my true passion,” Longbrake said. “So I started Key Nutrition. What we are really about is helping people get healthy. It is really about getting the community healthy. If I have to do that one person at a time, then that is what I am willing to do.”

Longbrake said that Key Nutrition, located near the State Farm office on Gateway Drive, is about teaching people how to lose, gain or maintain a healthy weight and how to create a health, active lifestyle.

“What we are all about is the nutrition side of life,” he said. “If you understand how nutrition affects every aspect of our life, it really does dictate our health and well-being. It affects our mental state, our appearance, it affects our mood.”

Longbrake said that with proper nutrition, you can “literally have a good mood and feel good about yourself. He also said that you can help keep sickness at bay and even reduce some of the medications that “doctors are so quick to put us on these days.”

Key Nutrition is a Herbalife Nutrition club and offers both shakes and smoothies, as well as a free “learn and lose” class at 6 p.m. Tuesday nights. There are also nutrition classes and a Thursday night shake bar.

“It is a classroom-style discussion,” he said. “I present some material, talk about some things and each week we pick a different topic.”

Longbrake is also looking at starting a walking group, which would also be free, and hosting runs or cycling events in the near future.
