Concert series doubles with summer festival

The Beckwith Park Summer Concert Series will coincide with lots of extra music and entertainment this week as Dowagiac’s Summer in the City Festival takes over downtown Thursday through Saturday.

The weekly outdoor concert in the gazebo of Beckwith Park kicks off at 7 p.m. with the Kalamazoo Avenue Band for an evening dedicated to Huntington Bank, the underwriter for the series. The band plans to bring the Rock, Rhythm and Blues Revue to music listeners, which features tunes from The Blues Brothers, Chicago and The Beatles. Patrons who attend the concert, which is free and open to the public, will also be treated to an ice cream social and drawings.

“We’ve been looking forward to Huntington Night all summer,” Trish Brazo, a team leader at the bank, said in a press release.

Brazo said the drawing will allow a lucky listener to win a pair of lawn chairs. Bank employees will also be giving out Huntington tote bags and treats for kids.

The music won’t stop after Thursday evening’s event, however.

Friday will draw in another crowd of audience members and festival-goers when country and Southern-rock band Wildfire takes the gazebo stage from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and then again at 7 p.m.

Summer in the City will also feature sidewalk sales, more music, dance team performances, children’s interactive activities and events for families.
