Roundup: Dowagiac wins invitational; Rangers first at jamboree

LAPORTE, Ind. — Led by medalist Dane Spagnoli, the Dowagiac golf team captured the New Buffalo Invitational Thursday.

The Chieftains shot 369 as a team to edged runner-up Bridgman, which finished with a 371. Lakeland Conference foe Berrien Springs was third with a 380, Lakeshore fourth with a 388 and Buchanan, also out of the Lakeland Conference, was fifth with a 433. The Lakeland’s Brandywine finished sixth with a 459.

Spagnoli shot an 83 to earn medalist honors. He has a pair of eagles during his 18-hole round at Briar Leaf Golf Club in LaPorte.

Brother Luke Spagnoli shot a 92, Travis Rehborg a 93 and Jeremiah Bond a 101.

The Bucks were led by Austin Gregory’s 103, while the Bobcats were led by Brady Wright’s 107.

 

Southwest 10 Conference

Cassopolis continues its defense of its conference championship as the Rangers won the league jamboree hosted by Centreville Thursday.

The Rangers shot 181 to easily outdistance runner-up Comstock, which shot 200. Centreville finished with a 206, White Pigeon a 207 and Marcellus a 217.

Cassopolis’ William Westrate shot 40 to earn medalist honors.

The Rangers’ Alan Wegner shot 45, Trystan Grant shot 47, while Turner Westrate and Kenny May both shot 49.

 

Wolverine Conference

Host Vicksburg and Otsego both shot 153 at Angels Crossing Thursday at the latest Wolverine Conference Jamboree.

Edwardsburg tied for third with Plainwell, as they both shot 169. Niles finished fifth with a 177.

Riley Briggs, of Vicksburg, earned medalist honors with a round of 33,

Andrew Kurowski led the Eddies with a 38. Edwardsburg also got a 43 from Ben Fish, and a pair of 44s from Carson Baker and Maverick Gates.

Aiden Krueger shot 41 to pace the Vikings. Landon Martin and Gavyn Luke both shot 43 and Keaton Schrader 50.
