Computer crash delaying Berrien County election results

Those looking for complete election results from Berrien County will have to wait at least a few more hours.

A computer crash is to blame for the delay in getting election results from Berrien County.

Louise Stine, Berrien County clerk, said at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday a county computer, which accepts modemed results from all the cities and townships within the county, crashed.

“All of a sudden the computer screen started flashing off and on, and then it fried,” Stine said. “At that point we had to start doing manual data entry.”

If all goes well, Stine expects to have all the data entered by noon today.

She said three to four people from the county office worked through the night entering the data.

Efforts to repair the computer problem were unsuccessful.

“The computer just fried itself,” Stine said. “Two years old and that’s what happened. We were quite perturbed to say the least.”
