Lakeland duo academic all-state

Brandywine senior Carlie Newman and Edwardsburg senior Sarah D’Amico were recently named to the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan’s Academic All-State team.

The criteria to be selected for the award was a minimum 3.5 grade point average and also be on the BCAM “Best of the Best” or BCAM All-State team, including honorable mention.

Newman is a three-time Class C All-Stater and a four-time All-Lakeland Conference selection. This is the second time she has been named Academic All-State.

Newman will play basketball at Spring Arbor this coming season.

D’Amico is a three-year letterwinner for the Eddies and was also named as the team’s most valuable player for the 2011-12 season.  D’Amico is a first team All-Lakeland Conference selection in 2011-12 after being named to the second team in 2010-11.

D’Amico plans to continue her basketball career this winter at Hope College.

Edwardsburg was honorable mention Class B Academic All-State as a team with a GPA of 3.21.
