Man dies in US 12 crash

An Elkhart man is dead after his vehicle collided head-on with a semi truck late Friday on U.S. 12 east of Edwardsburg.

Matthew Titus, 42, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Ontwa Township-Edwardsburg Police.

Titus was driving east on U.S. 12 near Eagle Lake Road when, for an unknown reason, his pick-up crossed the centerline and struck a westbound semi driven by Lennie Small, of Niles, at just after 11 p.m.

After the collision, Titus’ vehicle spun back into the eastbound lane and was hit by a Honda Accord driven by Christopher Woodruff, of Mishawaka.

The drivers of the semi and Honda, and a passenger in the Honda, were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

A toxicology report has been requested on Titus. No evidence of alcohol was found for the drivers of the semi and Honda.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Department, Edwardsburg Ambulance and Edwardsburg Fire Department assisted.
