Fund organized for fire victims

Tammy Kelley was victimized by fire as a child, so when a blaze Sept. 18 burned out two of her Eagle Lake Estates neighbors, she swung into action.

Kelly opened a savings account at G.W. Jones Exchange Bank, 69139 M-62 South, for Floyd Price and Tammy Sizemore and seeded it with about $50 collected going door to door.

Her first goal is raising $300 to $400 for a Dumpster to remove debris.

Price is disabled and has 30 days to remove his trailer. Sizemore, who has two children, suffered heat damage to her residence. No one was hurt.

For those who could donate time, Kelley is organizing a work day on Saturday.

The blaze started with improperly disposed charcoal from a grill catching a shed on fire and spread to the mobile homes at lots 79-80, 24050 North Shore Drive.

“I’m doing the best I can to help these people,” Kelley said.

Edwardsburg Fire Chief Bruce Stack listed the cause of the fire, which destroyed gas meters and electrical services, as accidental.

“Nobody meant to do it,” he said Tuesday.
