Danny Edward “Moe” Johnson, 61, of Edwardsburg, passed to his rest May 1, 2014, in the emergency room of Elkhart General Hospital from natural causes.

“Moe” was born Oct.13, 1952 in Niles, the son of Charles and Gladys (DePoy) Johnson. He grew up in the Edwardsburg area and graduated from Edwardsburg High School. He continued his education with a B.A. degree in liberal arts at Western Michigan and his master’s degree in at Notre Dame.

Moe’s life was filled with many different ventures. He was a contract employee for Homeland Security (U.S. Government). He was an author of a book, “Back Side of the Helping Hand,” written as a result of working as a fraud investigator for the state of Indiana. He enjoyed being a private investigator and a bail bondsman, as well as a claims representative for social security. He had been a substitute teacher for the Edwardsburg schools, panned for gold out west, had been a licensed stock broker, and a former National Rifle Association firearms instructor.

Moe was married May 8, 2009 in Cassopolis to Ruth A. Spencer and she survives with a brother, Charlie Johnson of Edwardsburg. There are two aunts, Anita (DeVerl) Weller and Marilyn (Jim) Days, both of Niles.

Dan “Moe” Johnson was a member of the Edwardsburg Conservation Club and enjoyed the fellowship in the club. He has been cremated and there will be a memorial service on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at the Edwardsburg Conservation Club, 26524 Pine Lake St., Edwardsburg, to begin at 5 p.m., followed by a buffet dinner at 6 p.m. and then fellowship to continue until 10 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to the Edwardsburg Conservation Club in memory of Moe.
Arrangements are by the Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home, Edwardsburg.
