An unprecedented five co-valedictorians will lead Dowagiac Union High School’s 121-member Class of 2013 at graduation June 2.

They are Jeremy Collins, Sydney Foote, Corinne Kasper, Katherine Pielemeier and Kristyn Turner, with Hollie Olson as salutatorian.

Rounding out the Top 10 are Jordan Juday, Hannah MacDonald, Rebecca Luth and Haley Smith.

Jeremy Collins

Jeremy, drum major of the Chieftain Marching Band, is the son of Kevin and Lori Collins. He was an escort for the Miss Dowagiac Scholarship Pageant, Humanities Club vice president and in National Honor Society.

Jeremy plans to attend Wayne State University to become a psychiatrist.

Sydney Foote

Sydney, high lady at the Michigan trap shoot three years, is the daughter of Christopher and Megan Foote.

She played three years of varsity tennis and was captain, saxophone section leader in marching and concert band, Humanities Club president, NHS and 4-H secretary (showing dogs and exhibiting photography, leather craft and knitting) and a jazz band member.

Sydney plans to attend the University of Michigan and eventually do research in archaeology and paleontology.

Corinne Kasper

Corinne, daughter of Christine Daugherty and Francis Kasper, plans to attend Dartmouth College to study linguistics and public policy and eventually get into politics.

School activities include band, brass ensemble (trombone), cross country, newspaper club, Potawatomi language classes, softball and weather balloon launch team.

Katherine Pielemeier

Katherine, daughter of Kitty and Randy Pielemeier, hopes to attend Kalamazoo College to major in physics or chemistry or Michigan State University to major in astrophysics to ultimately work in a research lab.

She is a member of the Positively Dance competition team, marching, concert and jazz bands and participated in Science Olympiad.

Katherine was grand champion poultry showman and reserve champion goat showman at the 2012 Cass County Fair and a 2013 Dance America Dancer of the Year semifinalist.

Kristyn Turner

Kristyn, daughter of Bob and Becky Turner, won the DAR Good Citizen Award. She plans to attend Central Michigan University to major in integrative public relations to eventually work as a spokesperson for a non-profit or charity.

School activities include Student Senate, Rotary Interact Club, varsity softball, basketball, volley and golf.

She was All-Wolverine Conference in softball.

Hollie Olson

Hollie, daughter of Sandy Tidey and Glenn Olson, intends to attend Grand Valley State University enroute to medical school.

She played varsity volleyball for two years and was floor captain, captained competitive dance, competed in poms, is NHS vice president, band, drumline, softball and teaches vacation Bible school. She earned a 3.96 grade-point average.

Jordan Juday

Jordan, son of Denise and Dennis Juday, played varsity golf all four years, twice qualifying for state. He was team MVP for 2012.

Jordan, with a 3.94 GPA, wants to major in accounting and play golf for Adrian College.

Hannah Sybil

MacDonald

Hannah, daughter of George and Kwicha MacDonald, belongs to NHS, Rotary Interact Club, varsity tennis and cross country, band, color guard, Science Olympiad and dance.

She won third place in Michigan for the VFW Voice of Democracy scholarship in 2012-13.

She was a regional champion in tennis in 2012, cross country MVP in 2010 and in 2011 won the Dance America Young Choreographer’s Award. GPA: 3.9

Hannah plans to attend the University of Michigan.

Rebecca Luth

Rebecca, daughter of Dale and Berit Luth, wants to study social work at Eastern Michigan University.

She earned a 3.8 GPA while participating in band, NHS, newspaper club, tennis, cross country, Educational Talent Search and church activities.

Haley Smith

Haley, daughter of Alan and Krista Smith, plans to begin her road to becoming a registered nurse anesthetist at Southwestern Michigan College.

Haley is Rotary Interact treasurer, a Student Senate member, played four years of varsity golf and belongs to NHS.
