One airlifted following Mason Township crash

One person was airlifted to South Bend Memorial Hospital following an accident on M-205 Sunday.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office reports that it is investigating a grade that occurred at approximately 2:38 p.m. Sunday. The accident happened on old M-205 and Autumn Drive in Mason Township.

Deputies arrived at the scene of the crash and found Jose Miguel Fernandez-Rosario, 29, was driving a 2004 GMC Envoy west bound on M-205 at a high rate of speed. Fernandez-Rosario lost control of the vehicle, ran off the roadway and rolled several times into a private drive striking a parked pick-up truck. Fernandez-Rosario was extricated from the vehicle.

Edwardsburg Police Department, Edwardsburg EMS, Porter Township First Responders and Med Flight assisted deputies at the crash scene.

The investigation of the crash does suggest that a seatbelt was used and alcohol does appear to be a factor in the crash.
