The Brandywine History Club continues to prove that having fun and learning are not mutually exclusive.

More than 40 Brandywine students, teachers and parents enjoyed the history club’s fourth annual summer road trip June 15-19 to Springfield and St. Louis, Mo.

Dave Roeder, history club adviser and Brandywine teacher, said the group visited the Lincoln Presidential Museum and Oak Ridge Cemetery, watched a St. Louis Cardinals game, enjoyed a dinner cruise on the Mississippi River and toured Historic St. Charles, among several other things.

“It was a little bit of fun and a lot of history,” Roeder said.

Roeder said the history club has already taken trips to Boston, Gettysburg, Pa., and New York.

“We want to do Baltimore and Washington, D.C. somewhere down the road,” he said. “We try to make all the activities fun, but still centered around history.”

Roeder founded the history club in 2007. It is open to students grades 9 through 12 and ranges in membership from 70 to 100 students.

Roeder said students interested in joining the club can follow a link on the Brandywine Community Schools website at brandywine.schoolfusion.us.
