Two arrested for Niles break-in

Two Indiana residents were arrested for allegedly breaking into a Niles Township cell phone store early Wednesday morning.

Keith Newbill, Jr., 40, of South Bend, Ind., and Dianna Krull, 45 of Mishawaka, were taken into custody, according to the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department.

A deputy responded to a business alarm at Boost Mobile, 2436 S. 11th St., at around 1:15 a.m. Upon arrival, the deputy found a store window had been smashed out.

After gathering information, officers began searching for a getaway vehicle that had left toward Indiana. A Michigan State Police trooper from the Niles Post spotted the vehicle and detained Newbill and Krull at the Stephens Motel south of the cell phone store.

Officers from the Berrien County Sheriff’s Detective Bureau worked with Michigan State Police Niles to recover several stolen cell phones from the motel. Newbill was treated with lacerations obtained when entering the store and transported to jail.

Newbill is being charged with breaking and entering and Krull is being charged with breaking and entering and violation of the controlled substance act.
