Jazz on the Terrace aids cancer patients

Music lovers in Michiana will get more for their admission ticket than just live entertainment. They will also make a difference in the lives of local children, teens and adults battling cancer.

RiverBend Cancer Services will present the 10th Annual Jazz on the Terrace at Beiger Mansion, 317 Lincolnway East, Mishawaka, Ind., at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. The jazz and cocktails event will raise funds to provide medication, medical supplies and nutritional supplements for cancer patients with inadequate or no medical coverage.

Local and regional jazz musicians will perform from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. on the limestone terrace surrounding Beiger Mansion, the former home of the first self-made millionaire in Indiana. Performers will include Box Set with Danny Barber and members of the Penn High School Jazz Band. Guests at Jazz on the Terrace will enjoy a cash bar, appetizers and a silent and oral auction featuring hand-painted market umbrellas and Adirondack chairs from local artists, students and cancer survivors.

“The 10th annual Jazz on the Terrace is a milestone for not only RiverBend Cancer Services, but our community as well,” said Kate Voelker, executive director of RiverBend Cancer Services. “Everyone who comes to this event is making a real difference in the lives of others who’ve fought and are fighting cancer.”

This year, Jazz on the Terrace will honor Ron Montandon and Dennis Slade from the Beiger Mansion Inn and former board member Rey Nied for their continued support of RiverBend Cancer Services.

Tickets for Jazz on the Terrace are $60 and can be purchased at RiverBend Cancer Services by contacting Nancy Owsianowski at (574) 287-4197 or online at www.RiverBendCancerServices.org.
