BERRIEN SPRINGS — Andrews University’s campus was put on lockdown following one armed robbery and two attempted robberies Saturday night, according to a release by the Berrien Springs Oronoko Township Police Department (BSOTPD).

Police are currently seeking three suspects in three separate incidents, each of which in a different location.

According to the release, police were called to the campus at approximately 11:06 p.m. when the first robbery was reported. During the investigation, Officer Anna Stutz learned that a total of three Andrews University students at three separate locations were victims of armed robbery attempts within a 25-minute period.

Two of the victims received minor injuries, but declined medical treatment.

One victim was robbed of his wallet, which contained cash and identification cards. Nothing was taken from either of the other two victims.

Suspects were described as follows:

• Suspect 1: A short black male with dread locs wearing glasses and a “gray or light blue hoodie,” white shoes and a “puffy vest.”

• Suspect 2: A white male.

• Suspect 3: A male wearing a white cloth over his mouth.

Victims reported seeing a handgun as well as a knife in possession of the suspects. Evidence recovered at the scene indicated that the handgun may have been a pellet gun.

A K-9 unit from the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department was called to assist, and a possible track was made from a wooded area near campus to the 8800 block of Maplewood Drive. Officers are unsure if the track was from the suspects.

Two suspects were last seen running toward the woods from the Garland Apartment area on Andrews University’s campus.

BSOTPD is working with the university to review video from various campus cameras to identify the suspects.

Students in the campus dorms were instructed to secure their entry doors as part of a perimeter lockdown. After suspect information was obtained, a campus alert was sent out. After an hour, students received an “all-clear.”

Anyone with information is asked to call BSOTPD at (269) 471-2813, or the Michiana Crime Stoppers Program.
