Community members are invited to help read the names of the 9-11 terrorist attack victims during a memorial and music event Sunday at the Riverfront Park Amphitheater in Niles.
According to Tom Majerek – who is helping organize the event along with members of St. Mary Catholic Church, Niles Main Street and the Riverfront Optimistic Club, among others — the public may sign up at the park to read names. It will begin at 2 p.m., and Real Life Church in Niles will lead a non-denominational faith service following the reading.
The memorial event is being held in conjunction with Pax Christi of Southwestern Michigan’s annual 9-11 service at the park at 8 p.m. The service of remembrance and reflection is being held to mark the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks; honor those who died; and reflect on the healing that is necessary to overcome these acts of violence.
Headlining the musical acts performing Sunday will be The David Mayfield Parade, who will play at 6 p.m. The evening’s music will begin at 5:30 p.m. and play until the Pax Christi service, then start again at 9 p.m.
The 9-11 event will be held rain or shine, Majerek said.
“It’s basically everyone joining together to remember 9-11 and enjoy some good music,” he said.
