CALVIN TOWNSHIP — A Vandalia man was injured in a Calvin Township crash Friday, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Richard J. Behnke reported his office investigated a single vehicle crash on Calvin Center Road, near Williamsville Street, in Calvin Township at 9:04 a.m. Friday.

Upon arrival, emergency personnel found a vehicle driven by Tyrone Muscat, 66, of Vandalia, had struck a telephone pole and left the roadway.

Muscat told first responders he had set his cruise control, looked up and was going toward the pole. After hitting the telephone pole, Muscat’s vehicle left the roadway and came to a stop about 100 feet past the telephone pole.

Muscat was extricated from the vehicle by rescue personnel and transported to Elkhart General Hospital for treatment.

Deputies were assisted on scene by Penn Township Fire and Pride Care Ambulance.

According to deputies, alcohol and drugs were not factors in the crash, and a seat belt was used.
