‘Clean Sweep’ allows for disposal of unwanted pesticides

Michigan farmers and agribusinesses will have one more chance to properly dispose of unwanted pesticides for free through the Clean Sweep Program this year.
Participants must sign up by Sept. 14 to take part in the collection. The final Clean Sweep Collection of this year is Wednesday, Sept. 28 in Benton Harbor.
Outdated and unwanted pesticides from Michigan farms, greenhouses, retailers, dealers, individuals, pesticide application companies and other agribusinesses can be difficult and expensive to properly dispose. The Clean Sweep grant, through the Michigan Department of Agriculture, will pay for the safe handling and proper disposal of any pesticide waste generated in Michigan.
Also accepted free through the Clean Sweep Program are mercury items and home and farm pharmaceuticals or medical waste. Participants do not need to fill out an application to bring in mercury items and pharmaceutical waste, but they must call their local MSU Extension office for collection details.
These items will be collected from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. during the Sept. 28 event.
