NILES — Positive cases of COVID-19 at West Woods of Niles nursing facility climbed this week to a reported 58, according to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. The number is an increase from 43, which was confirmed on Monday.

Matthew Resch, a representative of West Woods of Niles, released a statement from the facility on Friday.

“The leadership and staff at West Woods of Niles continue to be overwhelmed by the support shown to the community from families and neighbors,” the statement said. “We cannot express enough our thanks to those who have supported our staff and residents during this time. We continue to face the challenge of treating COVID-19.”

Resch reported that of the residents that have tested positive, nine have required hospitalization. The facility reports that it is continuing to “provide care and comfort” to those that are affected, and are working to keep in regular communication with families.

Positive tests for COVID-19 were initially confirmed at the nursing facility on May 4.
