NILES — Wednesday morning, the display window at Oh My LLC caught the attention of those traveling down Main Street and not just because of the colorful dresses in the display. Live models waved at those passing by and showed off the new Niles business’ formal wear in front of a backdrop of silver streamers.

The models were part of a grand opening celebration that took place that morning. Business owner Mica Yonker welcomed people to visit the store and commemorate the occasion. The Greater Niles Chamber of Commerce attended the event to conduct a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Yonker opened the business on April 15 and said she was excited to be there for customers.

“It’s great to finally have the doors open and be up and running,” Yonker said.

Oh My LLC is a family-run business that specializes in an assortment of formal attire, from prom and pageant gowns to wedding dresses. Some of the merchandise is new retail and some consignment, seeking to offer customers bargain rates. Customers can also find shoes, purses and jewelry.

Yonker’s family members, who volunteer to help run the shop, also help her with flower arrangements, custom alterations and wedding planning services. A website is currently in the works to offer customers the chance to buy products via the internet.

Since opening her doors, Yonker said the store has seen a number of customers.

“It’s been really busy. A lot busier than I anticipated,” Yonker said. “We’ve been selling gowns and doing tux rentals. I have been doing non-stop alterations.”

Before setting up shop in Niles, Yonker owned the Second Hand Rose in Edwardsburg. Due to some issues with the building, Yonker said she wanted to open a formal attire shop in a new location. So, she closed Second Hand Rose and moved her wares to Niles.

Yonker used to drive by the storefront where her business is now located and marvel at the display windows. Since occupying the space, which formerly housed Sentiments, Yonker has put the windows to use. In addition to capturing some attention with her live models, each week has seen fresh displays of colorful and eye-catching dresses.

Yonker said she hopes the ribbon cutting helps to spread the word about the business.

“[We] just [want] to get our name out there and let people know that there is a dress shop back in Niles,” Yonker said.

Oh My LLC is located at 307 E. Main St. The business will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. The store will be closed Wednesdays and Sundays. To learn more about Oh My LLC, people can visit the business’ Facebook page.
