Local lavender farmer to present at Howard branch library

HOWARD TOWNSHIP — Janene Rawlinson of Shades of Lavender Farm will present on the Uses and Benefits of Lavender at 6 p.m. Monday, May 13. Shades of Lavender opened last summer as a source for u-pick lavender and essential oil distillation demonstrations.
Rawlinson will share stories and pictures about becoming a lavender farmer in southwest Michigan. Attendees will learn about lavender, but also a field of wildflowers. Rawlinson will also talk about the benefits of lavender and the handcrafted bath and body, culinary and homecare products that are made at Shades of Lavender Farm.
Other free events
The Howard Branch of the Cass District Library is offering a variety of programs for all ages this May. Family programs in May include an evening family story time about worms and a family movie night.
The family story time will take place at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 14. Children are invited to the library for an interactive experience exploring the world of worms. No signup is necessary.
Older children will likely enjoy family movie night on Tuesday, May 21. The library will be showing The Kid Who Would Be King at 6 p.m.
In the movie, old-school magic meets the modern world when young Alex stumbles upon the mythical sword Excalibur. He soon unites his friends and enemies, and they become knights who join forces with the legendary wizard Merlin. Together, they must save mankind from the wicked enchantress Morgana and her army of supernatural warriors.
The show is open to the public and water and popcorn are available free of charge.
For adults, Mike Fornes will present on the USCGC Mackinaw Ship at 6 p.m. Monday, May 6.
