BUCHANAN — For the second time in three years, Edwardsburg captured the Leader Cup.

The Eddies, led by medalists Brayden Bell and Lee Ackerson, shot 74 to help Edwardsburg claim the golf tournament championship at Orchard Hills Country Club Monday.

Edwardsburg shot 232 as a team, while Niles was second with a 246, Dowagiac third with a 272, Buchanan fourth with a 316 and Brandywine fifth with a 340.

Besides Bell and Ackerson, the Eddies also got a 75 from Satchell Pierce and Garon Carrubba, while David Kanczuzewski and Cody Closson shot 83.

“Coming out here to Orchard Hills is definitely a treat for the kids,” said Edwardsburg coach Jeff Kozinski. “Bill Loux and his crew do a heckuva job out there. Those greens were rolling pretty true today. Course management definitely came into play today. Niles coach (Dan) Brawley does a great job, so we knew we had our work cut out for us today. It was a battle all the way down to the end.”

Kozinski was also pleased with the effort of Bell and Ackerson.

“Lee and Brayden are my No. 2 and No. 3 men in regular matches,” he said. “So, for them to come out today and put it all together, I was pleased with them. They worked well together as a team.”

Niles got a pair of 79s from Drew Rudlaff and Tommy Nate, as well as, Alex Krueger and Matt McKeel.

Dowagiac was led by Drew Davis and Drew Phillips, who shot 86.

Bryce Leazenby and Ethan Valentine led Buchanan with a 98, while Jordan Mickiewicz and Ben McKee shot 105 to lead Brandywine.

The teams played an alternate shot format for nine holes and then switched to a scramble format for the remaining nine holes.

Cassopolis did not compete in this year’s tournament, which is sponsored by Leader Publications.

“I would like to thank Leader Publications for hosting the Leader Cup annual event,” Kozinski said.
