Edwardsburg sweeps Dowagiac

EDWARDSBURG — The Edwardsburg baseball team improved to 12-1 on the year with a sweep of visiting Dowagiac Tuesday.

The Eddies defeated the Chieftains 10-1 and 12-3 in a pair of Wolverine Conference contests.

In the opening game, Edwardsburg banged out nine hits, including a triple by Jonah Sibley and doubles by Caden Goggins and Chris Griffin.

Zach Priebe piced up the victory for the Eddies.

Dowagiac’s Brenden Dudley suffered the loss.

The Chieftains were held to just a pair of hits.

In the six-inning nightcap, Hunter Bedell earned the victory for Edwardsburg, while Elijah Williams suffered the loss.

The Eddies finished with seven hits, including doubles by Goggins and Griffin.

Williams had a double for the Chieftains, who finished with just three hits.

Edwardsburg softball

The Edwardsburg softball team swept visiting Dowagiac 13-1 and 11-9 in Wolverine Conference play Tuesday.

Brianna Dixon and Alyssa Gearhart both had two hits for the Eddies, who also got a double from Vanessa Mayou.

Ashley Pion pitched four innings to earn the victory.

Amiyah Smith had two hits and the lone RBI for the Chieftains.

Greta Whitaker suffered the loss.

A 10-run first inning for Edwardsburg almost did not hold up against Dowagiac.

Kaitlynne Allen, Courtney Ryker and Gearhart all had two hits for the Eddies.

Bailey Anson, Gearhart and Ryker all doubled. Gearhart also tripled.

Carly Little was the winning pitcher.

Anna Dobberstein and Taylore Froehlich both had two hits for the Chieftains, who also got a double from Whitaker.

Froehlich homered for Dowagiac.

Smith took the loss for the Chieftains.
