Niles distance runners dominate at Marshall

MARSHALL — The Niles boys track team finished third at the Marshall Sports Festival on Friday.

The Viking girls team finished eighth at the meet, which was won by Parma Western.

The Niles 800- and 1,600-meter relay teams both took first place.

The 800-meter team consisted of Jordon Brown, Isiah Johnson, Austin Brookins and Owen Gardner posted a time of 1:32.59.

The 1,600-meter relay team of Brookins, Brown, Javon Ball and Devin Tomlinson ran a time of 3:33.56.

Tomlinson was also second in the 1,600-meters with a time of 4:47.27, while Adam Shepherd was second in the 3,200-meters with a time of 10:41.97.

Kaylee Thompson led the Niles girls team by scoring 22 of the Vikings’ 27 points.

Thompson was third in the 800-meters with a time of 2:40.43, seconds in the 1,600-meters with a time of 5:38.56 and a second-place finish in the 3,200-meters with a time of 12:30.67.

Sophie Hover took fifth in the pole vault with a height of 7 feet.

The Niles 3,200-meter relay team finished fifth with a time of 12:00.90. The team consisted of Erin Thomas, Zoey Martin, Kayla Trueblood and Maeli Rogers.

Dowagiac track

SOUTH HAVEN — The Dowagiac boys and girls track teams were swept by Otsego and South Haven at a Wolverine Conference Quad hosted by South Haven Thursday.

The Chieftain girls team was defeated by Otsego 116-16 and South Haven 89-41.

The Dowagiac boys team lost to the Bulldogs 101-35 and to the Rams 77-55.

The Chieftains’ Haydyn First took first in the 200-meters with a time of 29.29, while she was fourth in the 100-meters with a time of 13.81.

Tania Parker-Wilson was second in the 100-meters with a time of 13.66.

Shawn Little won the 3,200-meters with a time of 10:24.70 and was second in the 1,600-meters with a time of 4:53.40.

Cailyn Murphy captured the long jump with a leap of 18-2. Dylan Hill tied for third with a mark of 17-11.5.

Jacob Stokes was second in the 200-meters with a time of 24.83, while Aldreon Henderson was third in the 100 with a time of 12.24. Hill and Avion Ruiz were fourth and fifth with times of 12.27 and 12.29 respectively.

Henderson was also fourth in the 200-meters with time of 25.26. Stokes was fourth in the 400-meters with a clocking of 56.84.

Dowagiac’s 400- and 800-meter relay teams both finished second.

The 400-meter team ran a time of 49.22 and consisted of Hill, Lamberto Paredes, Henderson and Ruiz.

The 800-meter team was made up of Louis Barnes, Stokes, Qwintrayl Scott and William Leonard and ran a time of 1:43.72.
