Chieftain girls fall to Vicksburg, Coloma

COLOMA — The Dowagiac girls basketball team fell to 4-13 on the year with a 52-38 non-conference loss to host Coloma Tuesday night.

The Chieftains were down just one (10-9) after the opening quarter, but trailed 28-13 by halftime and were never able to make up the early deficit.

The Comets (11-6) took a 41-23 lead into the final quarter.

Amiyah Smith scored a game-high 22 points to lead the Chieftains, who also got six points from Taylor Pye.

Kayla Yore scored 22 points to pace Coloma. Morgan Wagner added 16 points.

On Saturday night, in a makeup game with Wolverine Conference South Division foe Vicksburg, the Chieftains dropped a 53-43 decision.

Dowagiac (1-6 South) was looking for the season sweep of the Bulldogs.

The Chieftains were again down just one point (10-9) after one quarter and trailed 23-19 by halftime.

Dowagiac was outscored 15-9 in the third quarter as Vicksburg opened up a 38-28 advantage heading into the fourth.

Allie Conner scored 13 points to lead the Chieftains, while Smith added nine and Tamia Parker-Wilson seven.

Hannah Vallier scored a game-high 21 points to lead Vicksburg, which also got 14 points from Madeleine Geiger.
