Bobcats take two from Bridgman

BRIDGMAN — Visiting Brandywine took a pair of BCS Red Division contests from Bridgman Friday night.

The Bobcats girls basketball team defeated the Bees 54-37, while the boys team knocked off Bridgman 47-42.

The Brandywine girls team followed that up with a 44-26 win over host Marcellus on Saturday.

After a close first half, Brandywine outscored Bridgman 28-17 in the second half to pick up the victory.

Zakiyyah Abdullah scored a game-high 22 points to lead the Bobcats.

Nicole Sachman added 12 points.

Brandywine (13-2, 6-2 BCS Red) led 14-12 after one quarter and 26-20 at halftime.

The Bobcats opened up a 45-28 lead heading into the final quarter after holding the Bees to just eight third-quarter points.

On Saturday at Marcellus, Brandywine turned another close halftime score into an easy victory.

Leading 9-12 at the intermission, the Bobcats outscored the Wildcats 25-14 in the second half  to pick up its 14th win of the season.

Abdullah had a game-high 16 points for Brandywine, which also got 11 points from Sachman.

Boys basketball

Brandywine got off to a fast start against Bridgman, leading 12-4 after one quarter, but the game would be close the rest of the way.

The Bobcats had a 28-19 advantage at halftime only to have the Bees cut that lead to 30-28 heading to the fourth quarter.

Brandywine outscored Bridgman 15-12 in the final eight minutes to hold on for the win.

Jaden Croom had 13 points to lead the Bobcats, who also got 12 points from Jordan Abrams.

Derrick Miller finished with seven points.

Both Brandywine teams will host Coloma Monday night.
