Brandywine rally comes up short in 55-52 loss to New Buffalo

NEW BUFFALO — Bison quarterback Andrew Coffeen ran for 243 yards and threw for 86 more as host New Buffalo outlasted Brandywine 55-22 in the first of two meetings between the schools Friday night.

Coffeen carried the ball 18 times, including a 63-yard run late in the fourth quarter that gave New Buffalo its first win of the season.

He also ran for scores of four and 13 yards, while threw a pair of touchdown passes — 12 yards to Garrett Mullen and eight yards to Seth Margaritis.

Brandywine (2-2) was led by Robert Gordon who rushed for 301 yards on 18 carries and four touchdowns.

Gordon scored on runs of 53, 60, 68 and 16 yards.

Jordan Abrams finished with 168 yards on 15 carries and a 72-yard touchdown run.

Corbin Eckenberger as 4 of 6 for 157 yards. He also rushed for a touchdown.

The two teams combined for 107 points and 1,099 yards of total offense.

Brandywine finished the night with 608 yards of total offense.

New Buffalo will travel to Niles to face Brandywine Oct. 6 in a game that will count toward the BCS Athletic Conference standings.

The Bobcats head to Three Oaks for a game with River Valley Friday night.
