Bobcats have no trouble improving to 17-0

It’s no secret that Brandywine boys’ basketball coach Nate Knapp has an incredible team this year, and he gives a lot of that credit to the experience of his seven seniors, who were honored Tuesday evening.

JeRod Glenn, Hunter Slaughter, Peyton Pruitt, Brady Duval, Vinny Peel, Scott Miller and Nathan Kemp combined for 55 points in the Bobcats’ crushing 67-11 victory over River Valley in the final home game of the season. With the win, Brandywine sits at 17-0.

“I’ve had a lot of good seniors come through here over the years,” Knapp said. “Every year they hand the torch off to the next group of guys and leave them with great examples. This year, all seven of these guys took that torch, those examples and are making the most of it. They show up every day to practice, work extremely hard, give it their all during the games and just don’t give up.”

From the opening tip-off, the Bobcats took control of the game. Brandywine went on a 19-0 run before the Mustangs were able to add their first three points to the scoreboard with 3:07 left to play in the first. The Bobcats took a 25-3 lead into the second, and extended it to 39-7 at halftime.

A running clock in the third allowed Brandywine to hold a 52-11 lead entering the final quarter of play. River Valley was left scoreless in the fourth.
“Everyone played tonight and they all did a great job,” Knapp said. “It was a fun night. The crowd was full and they were loud. What better way to go out.”

Slaughter ended the night with 17 for Brandywine, and Miller added 10.

Brandywine will head to Parchment Friday night for its last regular season game of the year. They open districts with New Buffalo.
