Dowagiac dance studio hosting fundraiser Sunday

Before settling down at their homes to watch the Falcons and Patriots clash in Super Bowl LI, people will have a chance to spend Sunday morning supporting another group of talented individuals, much closer to home.
Dowagiac dance studio Miss Michele & Co. is hosting a pancake and sausage breakfast fundraiser from 8 a.m. to noon that morning at the Pokagon Band Community Center, located at 27043 Potawatomi Trail, Dowagiac. Tickets for the event can be purchased at the door Sunday, and cost $7 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under.
The breakfast will consist of all-you-can-eat pancake and sausages, along with coffee and juice to drink, said studio owner and proprietor Michele Winchester-Greer.
“The dancers will be there helping out,” Winchester-Greer said. “Their fathers will be doing the cooking. The dance dads will have their t-shirts and aprons on, ready to go Sunday morning.”
Proceeds from the fundraiser will go toward supporting the Miss Michele & Co Competition Dance Team, a 15-member unit that competes in several dance events across the country. This year, the team plans on competing at the Tremaine Dance Convention in Chicago in March; the Showstopper dance competition in Chicago in May; and nationals in either Orlando or Myrtle Beach in July.
To help pay for transportation, costuming, lodging and other fees, members of the team spend several months raising money for the events, including hosting bake sales, selling mums, washing cars and more. Each member raises around $2,000 every year, Winchester-Greer said.
“Our students do two to three fundraisers every month,” Winchester-Greer said. “We are fortunate that the community supports us as much as they do.”
Proceeds from Sunday’s breakfast will be split between each member, the owner said.
