Dowagiac loses lead, falls to Paw Paw 36-30

PAW PAW — Visiting Dowagiac led for much of its Wolverine Conference opener against Paw Paw, but could not close the deal against the Redskins Friday night.
The Chieftains, who were shut out by Paw Paw last season, led 29-24 heading into the final quarter.
The Redskins (1-1, 1-0 Wolverine) outscored Dowagiac 12-1 in the final eight minutes to pull out the 36-30 victory.
The Chieftains (0-2, 0-1 Wolverine) led 12-6 after one quarter and 21-19 at halftime.
Dowagiac outscored Paw Paw 8-5 in the third quarter to take the five-point advantage into the final eight minutes of play.
Amiyah Smith scored as game-high 13 points to lead the Chieftains, who also got five points each from Taylor Hulett and Kellyn Daly.
Hannah Warner led Paw Paw with 12 points.
The Chieftains are back in action Friday night as they head to Otsego for another Wolverine Conference contest.
