ST. JOSEPH —As the first half of the 2015/16 school year wraps up, Honor Credit Union’s Student Credit Union program is off to an award-winning school year.

Through hard work and dedication to the communities it serves and education as a whole, Honor Credit Union took first place in the Alphonse Desjardins Award.

The Desjardins award, through the Michigan Credit Union League, recognizes credit union efforts to teach financial concepts and skills to members and non-members in the youth and adult categories.

Honor currently has 12 student credit unions, which reopened for business for the 2015/2016 school year.

The in-school credit unions are completely run by students, for students. Under the supervision of Honor branch teams, Student Credit Unions promote life skills, financial literacy, and responsibility, all while showing kids how easy and fun saving money can be.

Countless hours are invested by the Honor team and the partnering schools to prepare for the opening of a student credit union and continue successful operations of the in-school branches.

As the first place winner at the state level, Honor’s application will be reviewed by CUNA (Credit Union National Association) at the national level.
