Freshman Kaitlyn Zarycki scored 21 points to lead Edwardsburg to a 52-49 win over visiting Sturgis in the Eddies’ home and Wolverine Conference opener Friday night.

The Eddies (2-0, 1-0 Wolverine) led at every quarter break against the Trojans, who were playing their first game of the season.

Edwardsburg led 14-11 after one and 27-19 at halftime.

Sturgis (0-1, 0-1 Wolverine) trailed 36-31 heading into the final eight minutes.

The Trojans outscored Edwardsburg 18-16 in the fourth quarter, but could not overcome the early deficit.

Edwardsburg also got 11 points from Savannah Dixon and nine points from Noelle Kraus.

Nicolette Nelson led Sturgis and all scorers with 28 points.
