Police say a body was located inside a car that had run off the road and caught fire Saturday night in Berrien County.

The incident occurred near the intersection of Tabor Road and River Road in Sodus Township.

The Berrien County Sheriff’s Department was dispatched to the area at approximately 7:45 p.m. for a report of an unknown fire.

Police determined that the vehicle ran off the road and into a series or rolled irrigation lines, causing significant damage to the front of the vehicle.

When police arrived, the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames. After the fire was put out, a body was located in the driver’s seat of the vehicle. The accident remains under investigation.
