Police say they have two persons of interest in connection with a fire in the attic of a Niles Township home that was sparked by a meth lab.

Capt. Robert Boyce, of the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department, said Thursday afternoon that the persons of interest are a 55-year-old male and a 33-year-old female, both from Niles Township.

Boyce provided no more new details about the case and said the investigation is ongoing.

The fire occurred just after 2 a.m. Wednesday at 1923 S. Third St., in Niles Township.

A fire investigator with the Michigan State Police ruled that the fire was accidental due to the illegal manufacturing of meth.

Police said the person or persons at home at the time of the fire fled before authorities arrived.
