Paul M. Stuglik, 62, of Niles, Michigan died at 7:22 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2015, at Lakeland Hospital — Niles shortly following a sudden illness at home.

He was born on Sept. 15, 1953, in Niles, Michigan to Joseph A. and Betty J. (Freeze) Stuglik. He was graduated from Edwardsburg (Michigan) High School, and earned a bachelor’s degree from Pennsylvania State University. He also earned his journeyman card as both a pipefitter and a plumber, with operator’s credentials for overhead cranes. He was a member of the United Association of pipe trades labor union local #172 in South Bend and had been employed at both Viking Plumbing and Metropolitan Plumbing. His first – and preferred – vocation was farming, rotating acres of corn and soybeans.

Paul was raised in the Catholic Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, usually in Canada or Alaska, and had successful caribou hunts. He also enjoyed movies, especially John Wayne westerns and classic country music, usually with a bottle of the Canadian beer, Labatt’s Blue.

On June 8, 2002, in Coldwater, Michigan he married the former Patricia Ann “Patti” Eby, who survives. Also surviving are his daughter, Rachael Ann (Robert “Bubba”) Culp of Niles; grandson, Caleb Ringer; Paul’s mother, Betty Stuglik of Niles and his siblings, LuAnn VanOrman of Lawrence, Michigan, Josephine Covyeou of Niles, Joseph J. (Sharon) Stuglik of DeFuniak Springs, Florida, Christina Marie Morse of Niles, and James Anthony Stuglik of Niles; Patti’s sister, Sonet Goodwin of Saint James City, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

The Catholic Funeral Liturgy for Paul Stuglik will be read at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 10, 2015 at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles by Deacon Roger Gregorski of Saint Mary Catholic Church in Niles. Committal Rites will follow at Saint Joseph Cemetery in South Bend, Indiana.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 5 until 8 p.m. at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles. Contributions in memory of Paul may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, West Michigan Chapter, 648 Monroe Avenue NW Suite 104, Grand Rapids, Michigan 49503.
